Ambassador Marc Grossman, Former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs

Prior to his retirement in 2005 after 29 years in the Foreign Service, Ambassador Grossman served as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, the third-ranking position in the U.S. Department of State. A Career Ambassador, his distinguished career included senior assignments as the Director General of the Foreign Service, Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, and U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, as well as Special Assistant to the Secretary of State.
A graduate of the University of California, he holds an M.Sc. degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Since 2005, he has been Vice Chairman of The Cohen Group, and, in January 2009, he became Chairman of the World Affairs Councils of America, the national association of which the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh is a member.
